quick fact-check for german speakers
Hi everyone, this is Dan reporting from distant Berlin, Germany. A week ago today in Münster, also in Germany, a man won the largest Lotto jackpot ever, €20.4 million — thats $26.4 million! Lots of people made a big fuss, which of course is a treat for our winner, who is planning to move to the country where he can build a big house for… his pigeons? Wait, what? That can’t be right. That’s too crazy even for the Germans!
Okay, it says here that he’s going to move to the country, all right. Says he raises doves. Oho! There’s the problem! Certain English-language news sources seem to be unaware that the German word for “pigeon” also means “dove” — Taube — which ought to be no surprise, since they are pretty much the same bird.
Guess it wouldn’t have been so funny if it had been doves, now that I think about it.
